Stay at this beautiful English cottage in Mount Abu
I visited Mount Abu in January this year and it was just the right time. During the day, we could roam around without any woollens and evenings were pleasant without being obtrusively cold. I had been looking at a bunch of heritage properties for my stay but finally narrowed it down to Connaught House, owned by the Maharaja of Jodhpur and managed by WelcomHeritage.
We had booked a triple cottage room for two nights which had two rooms, a double bed, a sofa-cum-bed, two bathrooms. Decorated with stunning antiques collected over the years by the royal family, it was spacious enough for four adults. Though a little away from the reception area, our room came with a beautiful private sit-out area outside the room with gorgeous bougainvillea bushes in full bloom. It was perfect to soak in the winter sun as well enjoy a great view of the hills.
The restaurant served us some mind blowing north Indian and Rajasthani food on request. I would never forget the piping hot paranthas and upma in the morning and the chef's signature dal baati and churma we had for dinner. We came back with a happy tummy and some really great secret recipes to try on our own.
The property isn't very big but very well-maintained. There's a lovely garden area, a small lotus pond, pretty swings and ample opportunities for bird watching. The staff is so well-trained and prompt, especially Mr. Ajay, the Manager, who leaves no stone unturned to make sure you have a memorable stay.
It is only a 5-minute walk from the main market and barely 10 minutes from the popular Nakki Lake, and only an hour's drive away from the nearest railway station {i.e. Abu road}.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Connaught House and it would be my first choice whenever I visit Mount Abu again.
